3 Wedding Dress Necklines For A Small Bust
While being small busted isn’t exactly every girl’s dream, the truth is that a small bust is super easy to fit and flatter in a range of wedding dress styles (it’s more about highlighting than covering up, natch). We’re suggesting the follow three styles as fabulous neckline choices to flatter and maximize what you’ve got, but keep this in mind – a great bra and a great seamstress are your two best friends, no matter what neckline you pick.
1. The Halter. It’s pretty straightforward – a halter (especially one with a sweetheart line) will hike things up and in, even just a little, to create some subtle shape and cleavage for a small busted bride. This style is not for the overly modest of course – but for the rest of us, only serves to enhance our shape in a way that, on a fuller bust, might look totally over-exposed.
2. The Bateau. The beauty of the bateau is that it really takes the emphasis off the bust entirely and puts it on the neck and shoulders. At the same time, more fabric will flatter a small bust whereas it makes a full bust look even larger (and possibly slightly matronly, depending on the dress). To be totally on trend, consider an illusion bateau neckline, which gives you all the advantages without feeling too covered up.
3. The Sweetheart. Sure, it’s super traditional and pretty much a no-brainer, but the truth is that the sweetheart curves help to create the illusion of a fuller bust line. To maximize the effect, consider a sweetheart neckline on a surplice (sort of a mock-wrap) bodice, which are super popular at the moment, or something with structured beading or ruffles. If your dress has boning or is super structured and your girls don’t quite fill it out, ask your seamstress to sew in pads or cups to avoid less-than-flattering sunken spots.
